Call of Duty 4 Developer's Chat with Infinity Ward - November 15th, 2007

[Xfire] Phatteox: Good Afternoon, Evening and Night Everyone! We're very proud to welcome you to the Live Chat with Inifinity Ward the Developers of the new hit game Call of Duty 4. Be sure to stay tuned after the chat. We're giving away signed copies of the game, and the CoD4 devs are going to play live with you!

[Xfire] Phatteox: Now everyone will introduce themselves and start taking your questions

IW HkySk8r187: Hey, I'm Chad Grenier...designer and level scripter at IW

IW ThroLikeAGurl: I'm Emily, character animator

cod4khalen: Hey folks, Jon Davis here, representing the programming team

IW Fourzerotwo: Hey Everyone, I'm Robert Bowling, Community Relations Manager here at IW

IW Burx: My name is Justin Harris, I'm a Lead QA Tester at Infinity Ward.

IW cookieMonster: Hey, I'm Jiesang another programmer here

IW HkySk8r187: Question: Lyk31337/Kwegibohb: What do you guys think the largest difference between CoD2 and CoD4 is?

Answer: Well the biggest difference to me is the way it looks. The overall graphics have improved a lot and the animations are smoother than ever before. The gameplay has improved a lot too but I think the biggest thing is the look of the game.

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: Hellspam: How do you think female players will respond to Call of Duty 4?

Answer: So far the response from female players has been similar to the response from male players, they all enjoy it. The only complain has been that there needs to be female characters in the game, but if you look closely we have a female helecopter pilot.

IW cookieMonster: Question: v=[hh]=4E5T: When developing the game did you have to worry alot about hardware requirements or was it more abstract programming?

Answer: Yes we try to use each platform as best as we can so we do a lot of specific programming for each of the 3 platforms. However there is a layer of abstraction so not all of the code depends on the hardware

IW HkySk8r187: Question: =[hh]=4E5T: Will you make a expansion pack like United Offensive, where you can have vehicles and bigger maps?

Answer: We aren't currently giiving out any information on what is to come but IW has always been a fan of DLC and supporting a game after launch.

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: Hellspam: How do you think female players will respond to Call of Duty 4?

Answer: They think it's badass

cod4khalen: Question: snovvy?!: Hi! i am Tom! I'm from Poland, My first question: I got private [?] question to you guys: When you start to learning C++ [or other programming language you use], and how long time you practice to make you knowlage level at THAT level? I want to be programmer, and I am afraid it's too late for me [ I am 18 ]

Answer: Hi Tom, it's never too late :) The important thing IMO is to be motivated and to do projects and such on your own. When trying to learn how to do all of this stuff it's very important that you actually write code and games on your own, even if it's just writing mods for a game that is already out. If I remember right I had been programming for 5 or so years when I got my first game job.

IW HkySk8r187: Question: Ebola: From the moment that CoD4 was first on the drawing table, how much did it change over the course of the development to what you had originally envisaged?

Answer: I know single player changed a lot! We had started working on the game and then realized we weren't completely happy with it and rethought most of the game. During the project we brought in many people to play the game and give us feedback so we could make the best game possible. The game we shipped is really nothing like the original idea, although it kept the same concept and got better and better over time.

IWBadMutha: Question: Flewn: Can you briefly describe “a day at the office”?

Answer: A day at the office is fun and at the same time dead serious. People are motivated and handle what is needed while enjoying it at the same time.

IW cookieMonster: Question: [SOS] HeatDrive: Was Call of Duty 4 Engine coded from scratch, or is it just an extremely modified engine of Call of Duty 2?

Answer: It is an "extremely modified" version of COD2 engine. It does not make sense to reinvent the basics of the engine each time. We can do a lot more by improving on a base then starting from scratch every time.

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: Hellspam: Do you think that there is a good number of female players already playing the game? Getting Into it? Thinking of purchasing it? Why?

Answer: I've seen quite a few females on XBOX live. I'm not sure how many of them are first time gamers or if they;ve played a bunch of stuff before. It's really the same for everyone, if they are into games and see CoD4 then they will buy it.... Maybe the only difference will be that when girls see their boyfriends/roommates/brothers/friends playing CoD4 tthey will think it is so amazingly awesome, so beautifully arted and so freekin fun that they will want to play themselves. I think it's awesome when a girl gets into Multiplayer and totally smokes a pack of guys...

cod4khalen: Question: tacomonkeygod: Why did the team decide to only work with DirectX 9 and not work with DirectX 10?

Answer: We didn't need the capabilities of DX10, so DX9 met our needs. This let us focus our efforts where we felt we'd improve the experience for the most number of people.

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: PoLLo_Loco: How steep is the learning curve in CoD4 (if any)? (for someone who has never played a CoD game)

Answer: As long as you do the training mission and play at the recommended dificulty level you should be fine... I wasnt much of a CoD gamer before i started at IW and I'm sure it was pretty funny watching me start out... but it didnt take too long to get the hang of the controls.

IW cookieMonster: Question: =ZU=MaSg Boricua99: How did you come up with all the cool perks and weapon additions?

Answer: They came from various places, tossing ideas around, and collectively brainstorming. For example the last stand perk was inspired by a single player AI behavior where they sometimes pull out a pistol as a last resort at trying to hurt the player

IW Fourzerotwo: Question: (KTTB)<3Peanuts: whats steps have been taken to reduce cheating in cod4?

We brought in the Even Balance team with Punk Buster early on in development with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare so as to have an improved line of communication with them when it came to preventing current and future cheats / hacks for the game. We're aware that you're not going to catch everything with your Anti-cheat, so we've been keeping a lot of eyes and ears on the community so that we can fix any issues which are being exploited for a hack quickly and make it obsolete faster. For example we've been tackling the 'left / vertical lean' glitch when it was sent over.

IW HkySk8r187: Question: [FRAG]:Chrisjon: Will you guys have a map editor program and mod making program for Cod4 and if so when do you think it will be out

Answer: We do have mod tools for CoD4 and we are working on getting them out as soon as possible. They are currently being tested so it shouldn't be too long before the community can get their hands on them.

cod4khalen: Question: ÐεMiGøD: Are you big gamers outside of the office?

Answer: I think it's safe to say that I'm a huge game junkie :)

IWBadMutha: Question: ÐεMiGøD: Are you big gamers outside of the office?

Answer: HEll YES!

IW Fourzerotwo: Question: ÐεMiGøD: Are you big gamers outside of the office?

Answer: YES! I have a horrible addiction to video games.... it's a sickness really.

IW HkySk8r187: Question: [select]CrazyBastard: What is up with prestige mode?

Answer: Prestige mode allows players who reach level 55 to restart their leveling. There are many levels of prestege and each time through the levels you get a different icon. It's just a way of showing people how high of a level you are.

IW Fourzerotwo: Question: [select]CrazyBastard: What is up with prestige mode?

Answer: Prestige Mode is bragging rights for the most part, it shows that you had it all and gave it up, however on the PC you have ModWarfare, where you can unlock / use anything you like whenever you want, so the 'bragging' of giving it all up when having it all isn't the same, since you can access all the weapons / unlocks at the cliick of a mouse on PC

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: Player: Do you find that playing CoD4 is more fun now that the game is released and you have a larger population of players?

Answer: I enjoy it more now that there are a million more people on. It gives a variety of playing styles to work with and against.

IW Burx: Question: ÐεMiGøD: Are you big gamers outside of the office?

Answer: Oh, definitely! Many people around the office are avid gamers. Some of us are on live playing recently released titles. However, a lot of IW can be found playing CoD4 long in to the night.

IW cookieMonster: Question: [BFs*MVP4]GHolland: When making the SP mode for COD4 what was the hardest obstical you have to over come with the AI?

Answer: One of the challenges was making your teammate AI behave smart without doing everything for you. Enemies will throw flash bangs at the player and run close to kill the player, but often the friendly AI would keep them pinned down so they could never reach you. There were many other issues like this where having teammates made it complicated to design the AI.

IW HkySk8r187: Question: Avalanche: Would you say that the Call of Duty series is primarily designed for "hardcore" gamers rather than casual ones, or do you take steps to make the game accessable even to less skilled players?

Answer: We try to make our game fun for everyone. Hardcore players like myself can play on hard or veteran for a good challenge but my little brother likes to play on Easy and he has a good time. Having these difficulty settings is good for different skill levels and we try to tweak them accordingly

IW Fourzerotwo: Question: Avalanche: Would you say that the Call of Duty series is primarily designed for "hardcore" gamers rather than casual ones, or do you take steps to make the game accessable even to less skilled players?

Answer: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was really designed for any skill level, you have your very casual modes and way to play the game, especially in multiplayer, but we also wanted to open up Multiplayer so our hardcore Call of Duty fans could get their fix as well, that's why we introduced "Hardcore Mode" in addition to the normal modes so that both audiences, the ones who don't need a HUD or ammo counter etc has a choice, and the casual who made need the assistance has theirs.

IWBadMutha: Question: [1st ID] Pfc Wilson-=PR=-: Did you guys enjoy going everywhere getting backgrounds and sounds for weapons? What was your favorite part? Whats your favorite platform for playing cod4 on? Whats your favorite part of the plot?

Answer: I really enjoyed the firing range shoots we took to get the feel and sounds for the weapons. Never really shot guns before and doing that with some many guns gave me a huge respect for guns and the power that have .... goood lord.... all I can say is the DESERT -EZ!!!!! too much power for a hand gun... excuse me hand cannon!!!! I am a PC FPS player but I have been trying to give the console a try ... but I am and will mor than likely play PC more. Favorite part in the plot is the ENDING... dope!

IW HkySk8r187: Question: ÐεMiGøD: :) i like to hear that the devolopers can tell me from experience how to make these games... great to hear... but what kind of games do you play? do you mainly stick to FPS?

Answer: I play everything. You can look up my xbox360 username if you'd like...HkySk8r187. Just don't laugh when you see some of hte games I have played haha. I play just about every FPS that is out there but I also enjoy other games. Recently I've been playing Orange Box and Assassins Creed. I also love my Guitar Hero =)

cod4khalen: Question: ÐεMiGøD: :) i like to hear that the devolopers can tell me from experience how to make these games... great to hear... but what kind of games do you play? do you mainly stick to FPS?

Answer: I like everything from RPGs to puzzle games to other FPS games to music/rhythm games (Guitar Hero!)...I don't discriminate :)

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: ˨کilңoUЄϮϮЄ TiTaηiUm: What inspired the character models and skins to COD4 ?

Answer: A lot of the characters in the game are modeled after real marines and people in our office. I'm hoping that next game I'll get in...hehe.

IW HkySk8r187: Question: Greg: Hey guys I got two questions, One I was just wondering is the MP44 still used in war nowadays, because its a german weapon used in WWII and it takes a pretty high multiplayer rank to achive it. Two, How did you get into the video games business. Thanks keep of the good work.

Answer: The MP44 is still used in some parts of the world and it's a cool weapon so it made sense to put it in the game. It's fun to have at least one weapon from CoD2 carry over also :)

IW cookieMonster: Question: OoP Turtle: Are there any patches that you guys are working on which will improve multi threading for multi core processors?

Answer: On the two consoles, we're maxed out on using the cpus and cores. For the PC we do utilize multi processors, but we can't rely too much on having more and more processors since the game has to run on lower end machines.

IW Fourzerotwo: Question: OoP Turtle: Did you ask any top profession CoD2 teams what they would like to see in the new game?

Answer: We didn't bring any team's as a whole, but we brought in a lot of community members straight from the forums to the office throughout developments, some to play the game early for the entire day, some as large groups to just see the game early and give feedback. A lot of that feedback crafted and shaped the final game and was the result of a lot of stuff in MP, especially the addition of ModWarfare. We brought in members of all different sides of the community, from Server admins, to clan members to kleenex test, to competitive players.

IW cookieMonster: Question: ->DX<--: Where do you see the advantages of COD2 and 4 instead of other first person team shooter games like BF2?

Answer: Both types of games have their appeal. We try to go for a more tight infantry combat where players are constantly in action.

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: Ψ Rockin' Ω: Were you able to "test fire" any of the real weapons that are in the game?

Answer: Hells Yes... I got to test fire A LOT of them, my favorite being the Shotgun and the Mini Uzi!!! We went out to the firing range for reference. One bit of advice.... STAY AWAY FROM THE DESERT EAGLE!!! Good Lord, I don't know if that video will ever get out... but damn.

IW HkySk8r187: Question: Vicious! Nike!: Did you ever think about a "normal" Health-Point-System in CoD4 - I know many ppl, who dislike the acctual healthsystem, and don't play this game for this reason

Answer: Multiplayer has Hard Core Mode which features a "normal" health point system like CoD1

IW cookieMonster: Question: Ŧўяặňŧzor: Im curious, did any 1 on the IW team serve in the military?

Answer: Several people have and in different countries too :)

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: Greg: Two, How did you get into the video games business. Thanks keep of the good work.

Answer: I got into video games from a traditional art and 3D Character Animation background.

IWBadMutha: Question: -->DX<--: Could you imagin to work with some guys from the modding scene like DICE did in the past?

Answer: I we find someone in the mod community we like ...they get hired ;)

IW HkySk8r187: Question: kvn1: Wich version of the game give the no1 gameplay experrience in your opinion?

Answer: It's really a preference. The game runs and looks the same on all the platforms so whichever you are most comfortable with is best for you.

IW Burx: Question: Joe <3 Bri: What do you think of the AC-130 mission? I personally like the realism of how everything looks on it.

Answer: We've received very good feedback from the AC-130 mission. A lot of the community enjoyed the ability to experience this in CoD4 and we were happy to hear that. When the QA team first got their hands on it, I don't think we slept that night :)

IW Fourzerotwo: Question: Ŧўяặňŧzor: Im curious, did any 1 on the IW team serve in the military?

Answer: Yep, we have a lot of members of the IW team who served in the military in all different roles, in all different countries. There's a varied background, I myself spent some time as an 11B in the US Army before my enlisting at IW.

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: [1st ID] Pfc Wilson-=PR=-: What was your favorite part about making cod4 and the whole cod series? and is 402 the team jokester?...if not who is??

Answer: "THE" team jokster.... seriously there is not just one.... there are toooo many to name just one.

IW ThroLikeAGurl: too late

cod4khalen: Question: Ebola: Did any one feel it 'risky' to use the old Middle East terrorist scenario?

Answer: It was definitely a concern of ours. We were careful to try to stay as far away from anything that could be viewed as actual commentary on the current war or state of world events as we could while still making the game that we wanted to make.

IW Fourzerotwo: Question: [1st ID] Pfc Wilson-=PR=-: What was your favorite part about making cod4 and the whole cod series? and is 402 the team jokester?...if not who is??

Answer: My Personal favorite part of working on the game was simply seeing it develop from day 1 to today, I love to go back and play early builds of the game and just see how much went into it till it was today.

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: Raelos - Ψ Rockin' Ω: How old are you (if you don't mind my asking)?

Answer: 25

cod4khalen: Question: Raelos - Ψ Rockin' Ω: How old are you (if you don't mind my asking)?

Answer: 37

IW HkySk8r187: Question: Chud - The Angry Gamer: How many all nighters did you pull to complete CoD4?

Answer: We actually did really good planning on this project and we didn't have to pull any all nighters. A lot of people here including myself love our jobs so much that we don't want to go home at the end of the day because we are so excited to get the next cool idea into the game. There might have been a few people here and there that pulled an all-nighter once or twice but it was on their own free will and love for the game, not because they needed to.

IW Burx: Question: tacomonkeygod: How many of the developers had to break a WoW addiction to work on the game?

Answer: Who ever said we broke the addiction....o_O

IW HkySk8r187: Question: Raelos - Ψ Rockin' Ω: How old are you (if you don't mind my asking)?

Answer: 26/m/encino

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: `digitaL.braVo: What made you guys decide to keep the legacy of Captain Price alive as your SAS Boss in the game?

Answer: Because Price is a badass and no other man could wear a mustach like he does!

IW-Avatar: Keyoshi: What was the reasoning behind going to modern warfare instead of keeping with the traditional world war II style?

Answer: Going modern gave us the opportunity to step outside the restrictions of a historic game and basically do whatever we wanted. This helped us get even more invested in the game and helped push us to the next level.

IW-Avatar: tacomonkeygod: How many of the developers had to break a WoW addiction to work on the game?

Answer: I stopped playing WoW on nov 09th 06 so I could focus all my attention on The Bog (and then later missions). It was a good time to stop because all my full tier2 set characters were soon antiquated by the expansion anyway.

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: [SOS] HeatDrive: What is the Male:Female Ratio in the team?

Answer: Um... bad? Wait, good for the guys...bad for the girls =)

IW Fourzerotwo: Question: ->DX<--: Do you ever had another idea for the game title of COD?

Answer: Yes, Call of Duty 4: Warnado was passed around early in development when we were attempting to come up with names..... and then swiftly beat to death... RIP Warnado

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: Surferdude: who is the best player in the office?

Answer: Depends who you ask. HA

IW Swede: ÐεMiGøD: Are you considered a nerd outside of the office? Or would nobody guess that you do what you do?

Answer: No one thinks I'm a nerd when I show up in all my motor cyckel lethers and stuff thats for sure

IW-Avatar: Chommpers: If I wanted to become a game designer for IW what advice could you give me?

Answer: Find games you can mod and mod the hell out of them. The best thing to do is make the best mod then get in touch with game companies and do contract work. I did contract work for several years before I got a job in the industry.

IW Fourzerotwo: Question: Surferdude: who is the best player in the office?

Answer: Let's not be modest, the answer is clearly me.

IW Burx: Question: Surferdude: who is the best player in the office?

Answer: Not Fourzerotwo.

IWBadMutha: Question: -->DX<--: How is it possible to create such a huge game like COD4 in just a few years without making much mistakes? And how do you deal with the growing pressure form the publishers?

Answer: Well IW is only out for success so when we create a game we only have that in mind and mistakes are made but are quickly resolved. Pressure from publishers will grow but when you are successful there isnt much pressure ;) SUCCESS!!

IW-Avatar: |7R|Ly©an: How long this is take to create this game

Answer: All IW games have taken under 2 years.

cod4khalen: Question: ÐεMiGøD: Are you considered a nerd outside of the office? Or would nobody guess that you do what you do?

Answer: I'm definitely a nerd. It's a badge I wear with pride :)

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: ÐεMiGøD: Are you considered a nerd outside of the office? Or would nobody guess that you do what you do?

Answer: I am considered awesome in and out of the office. J/K... i dont think you could guess what i do, whenever random people ask they are always shocked...

IW HkySk8r187: Question: ÐεMiGøD: Are you considered a nerd outside of the office? Or would nobody guess that you do what you do?

Answer: I don't think I'm a nerd. I like to do normal things like go outside and play extreme sports. When nobody is looking I play games for hours and hours haha

IW cookieMonster: Question: OoP Turtle: Are there people on the development team who do not play any video game or is that a requirement you guys have?

Answer: There is a very tiny minority that don't play games, but most of us play a lot of games of all sorts. For some people it is an implicit requirement

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: Raelos - Ψ Rockin' Ω: What advice could you give to someone who hasn't played a lot of Call of Duty?

Answer: Play it!

IW-Avatar: Greg: Hey guys love the game and not completly done with the single player but what made you decide to kill off a bunch of the marines with the Nuke?

Answer: We did not want the player to feel like he was ever completely safe or in control. In my mind I liken it to TV shows that occasionally kill off a key character. The stakes feel higher when you're not sure who is safe and who will survive.

cod4khalen: Question: OoP Turtle: Are there people on the development team who do not play any video game or is that a requirement you guys have?

Answer: To add to cookieMonster's answer - people who don't like games don't tend to stay in game development very long at all..

cod4khalen: Question: insane301: will i ever have a question anserd lol???????

Answer: Yes!

IW Fourzerotwo: Question: Raelos - Ψ Rockin' Ω: What advice could you give to someone who hasn't played a lot of Call of Duty?

Answer: For new players you just really have to get use to it, use the game features to your advantage, especially in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, remember to use bullet penetration, don't be afraid to let your team soften up defenses for you before moving up, watch your HUD!! and most importantly listen to your CO and squad mates, they'll call out enemy positions, call out danger "RPG INBOUND!" and let you know about upcoming objectives

IW HkySk8r187: Question: |7R|Ly©an: Where was the development team located? And how many people were involved in infinity ward's development. Just curious? A really good game must have taken a lot of people to work.

Answer: We are in Los Angeles, CA. I think we are up to about 80 people now and every single one of us works hard to get the game top notch.

IW-Avatar: [-X-] Jordatron: Jordatron: I have 2 questions. how did you come up with the ideas of the missions, and how long did it take to programme them?

Answer: It varies. For example the Shock & Awe mission was invisioned in about an hour or two and then developed over about 1.5 months using existing assets. Missions that require all new assets can take 2 or 3 times longer. Most missions also take a lot longer to conceptualize.

IW Fourzerotwo: Question: [360kil]DHA: Are there any easter eggs as big as halo 3's skull system?

Answer: There are enemy intel items throughout single player campaign that you can collect, and as you collect them you will unlock more and more cheats for once you beat the Single Player. For example, you can unlock Bad Year where enemies explode into tires, or unlimited ammo, etc. for Single Player.

cod4khalen: Question: alajahada: what is the best part about your job?

Answer: Working with such an amazing team of people. This is seriously THE best company to work for I could ever possibly imagine. Everyone is incredibly skilled and loves what they do.

IW HkySk8r187: Question: alajahada: what is the best part about your job?

Answer: The best parts for me are the fact that I get to come into work everyday to a job that I love. I never would have thought I could do this for a living. I used to mod games for fun on my free time and now it's my job. It's also very rewarding to know that I work with the best development team I have ever seen and when the game comes out the biggest compliment is the sales numbers. It's sooo rewarding to see everyone love the game so much it makes me all tingly. Ok maybe not but it feels good :)

IW Swede: RavenKnight: Is it possible to find shelter to stay alive once the nuke has gone off, and your chopper has crashed?

Answer: No it's not

IW Fourzerotwo: Question: alajahada: what is the best part about your job?

Answer: The Women.... no wait.....

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: Chommpers: Can you tell me about a funny bug or glitch you encountered during the development of the game?

Answer: One time...for reasons unknown to me... when i killed one of the dogs he died and got attached to my buddies leg... for the rest of the level my buddy was dragging this dog carcass around. I had to call a bunch of people into my office to see it... very funny. Needless to say, that was fixed and you guys wont be able to do that.

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: alajahada: what degree did you get in college?

Answer: BA in Computer Animation

cod4khalen: Question: Chommpers: Can you tell me about a funny bug or glitch you encountered during the development of the game?

Answer: At one point writing the ragdoll code, I had a bug where the joints that hold the bodies together failed to activate...so you would kill a dude and all his bits would fall apart and roll and bounce across the landscape.

IW-Avatar: Funny glitch story: An off-the-street tester encountered a problem on One Shot One Kill, MacMillan wouldn't budge so the helicopter crash sequence wouldn't start. So while one of the other designers is interviewing the tester, I start poking around with the controller to see what's up with MacMillan. The tester spies this out of the corner of her eye and the on screen motion immediately makes her motion sick (because she wasn't controlling it).

So she turns around and promptly fills a nearby trashcan with vomit. I hear the designer go "oh don't throw up!" which she answered with a huge "hughughalarlgh". That's when I left the room.

IWBadMutha: Question: OoP Turtle: Did you guys think about how league play would be while developing the multiplayer part of the game?

Answer: If league play means tourneys and clan wars.... then yes. Multiplayer was in full production from the beginning. We were set out to make the best community FPS online game and leagues and clans are one of the biggest life givers for online games ;)

IW HkySk8r187: Question: Panda: What is your favorite food during those late night coding munchie attacks?

Answer: It's all about hot pockets, M&Ms, and Mt. Dew haha I can run for weeks on that combo

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: Panda: What is your favorite food during those late night coding munchie attacks?

Answer: CANDY!!!!! candy coffee candy coffee candy coffee candy coffee candy coffee candy... and water.

IW Swede: CrazyBastard: Do you see a merger of console/pc games in the near future as far as multiplay goes?

Answer: I don't think a FPS will be easy to merge because of the benefit of using a mouse compared to the controller. Aside from that any thing that joins two communities together would be great.

IW cookieMonster: Question: =[hh]=4E5T: Is IW have programmers in any other countries besides the US that helped make this game

Answer: All of the programmers work on site, although we do have programmers from different countries.

IW Burx: Question: alajahada: what degree did you get in college?

Answer: I went to Full Sail for Film Science and ended up at IW...shows you how addicting video games are.

IW ThroLikeAGurl: Question: ÐεMiGøD: Where did you go to school for this job?

Answer: Ringling School of Art

IW Swede: MasterRen: nighthawk4ever: how long did it take to build the single and multiplayer maps? (scenery alone)

Answer: different length for different levels but in general the rough layout takes around two to four weeks and the detail work up to several month.

IW Fourzerotwo: Question: alajahada: fourzerotwo do u really get chicks?

Answer: Truck loads.... and by truck loads I mean no

IW-Avatar: Question: Chud - The Angry Gamer: Does any IW reps visit colleges, if so what are some of the colleges you visit ÐεMiGøD: Where did you attend College?

Answer: In response to these two, I went to the Savannah College of Art & Design and to my knowledge we have sent animators there before, and to other schools as well.

IW HkySk8r187: Question: century0: Where did the idea for the leveling/rank system come from? Was the main push from other games that use it (such as BF2 and so on) or was it just done to fit the military theme?

Answer: We just thought it would be a good idea and make the game more fun. We had seen other games do a similar system but thought that we could make something that fit our game better. It also matches the military theme so it just made sense. It's fun to have challenges to work towards as you play, besides just trying to win the match or get the most kills.

IW Swede: Keyoshi: What is your favorite gun in the game, and what was one of the favorite guns you got to test?

Answer: I use the M4 with red dot or the G3 for most maps. MP5 with silencer for CQB.

IW Fourzerotwo: Question: Joe <3 Bri: what extras did you place in the Limited Collectors editon of CoD4? Because i plan on getting the limited edition.

Answer: The Limited Edition version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare comes with a bonus DVD showcasing al ot of the behind the scenes happenings of the game here at IW. We had a film crew and a camera with us throughout pretty much everything we did with this game and made sure to save it all just for this DVD, from hitting the firing range to around the office. You'll also get a strategy guide in digital form and a hardcover Art book showcasing the concept and art of the game.

Answer: Grant Collier (our CEO) actually came to Full Sail to show off Call of Duty 2. We got a Q&A session with him and that's one of the reasons I ended up here :)

IW Fourzerotwo: Question: Keyoshi: What is your favorite gun in the game, and what was one of the favorite guns you got to test?
