Emo is typically whiny and sad. Common topics include the world sucking, everyone being too mean, and suicide. Metal is typically over the top attempts at bad ass (some of which are successful). Common topics include the world being rather delightfully flammable, Satan, being a destructive death monster thing, and killing someone else. The difference is in there my friend. _______________ I could agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. |

I also listen to Rock , metal (of course) hard rock and alternative and other genres . Being on topic : Electro: Boys Noize THe Bloody Beetroots Ratatat (Etc) House : Justice daft punk and many others , about ambient , i listen to the sky.fm ambient channel (bottom) I apologise as im about to be petty but don't worry, I will kick myself later. Justice and Daft Punk are French Electro House. If you want some good "Electro" music, then basically listen to anyone who is signed by EdBanger records, one of the best labels out there Eg. SebastiAn, Mr Oizo, Justice, Feadz so on and so on _______________ Start with a Whisper... End with a Scream. Music..."A polite reminder of the limitations of Language" |

I'm way more into Rock (and many subgenres), but there are quite some electronic "musicians" I enjoy, although I only have single songs from many, like Daft Punk (Aerodynamic). I guess my favorite would be The Prodigy. _______________ |

Actually that really only describes death metal, black metal, thrash metal, and various similar forms of metal. There are so many sub genres to metal that don't have over the top 'brutal' lyrics. Some bands/artists that come to mind: Judas Priest Iron Maiden Gamma Ray Dio Black Sabbath Yngwie J. Malmsteen and many many more. I could go on all day about the various forms of metal and their distinct styles, but I'll spare you _______________ |

I suppose brutal is the wrong word, but unfortunately you can't say "dark" without someone thinking of a scrawny androgynous waste of air cutting him/her/its self and saying he's "dark". The musicians you've listed certainly don't sound like they are hitting you in the face repetitively with the music, but it still has a more raw and unreal (in a cool way) feel to them. _______________ I could agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. |

I know what you mean. I like all forms of metal except death metal and black metal. I specifically hate those too for their lack of vocal ability and their insanely brutal lyrics (seems rather pointless to me). The bands I listed, like you said, don't have such lyrics. That "raw and unreal" feel is simply what defines metal. All I was trying to point out was that there are plenty of metal bands that don't sing about killing, hell, the occult, etc. I mean, one of my favorite songs is Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Iron Maiden, and that's based off of the poem by the same name. Really nothing brutal or dark. I think a lot of people just have a misconception about what metal really is. I'm not saying you're one of them, since I have no clue how much you know about the various genres of metal, but most people do. When they think metal they immediately think of some pissed off looking guy wearing dark clothes screaming at you about Satan and death. Metal is much more than that. It would take me hours to explain my fascination with it _______________ |
