Quote from jekurI've really been enjoying Dead Space. Its TPS, but still good.

Borderlands looks great, and from a number of friends that have played it, I'd just recommend it off of them.

He had Dead Space, played it for a few days and hasn't touched it since. (I then picked it up when I got my decent GPU and enjoyed it )As for the orange box suggested just above the poster quoted, I'm trying to stay away from steam here.

Singleplayer wise, how long is Crysis Warhead? And how about Rainbow 6 Vegas? And what about supreme commander?

Quote from duncreekAnother great strategy game would be anything from the Total War series. The more recent games are definitely more developed and improved over the older ones, although the most recent one takes place in the 1700's, so if you want swordsmen, stick to TW:Medieval 2.
The game is two parts, one part being a turn based campaign map, with army movement, capitols, territories, economy, building and recruitment, the other part being real time battles that are renowned for realism. Your time will typically be spent half in one half in the other.
As an added note, its a rainbowsing amazing game for history buffs, with all of the details you can read ab out each unit or building under its stats.

Don't forget Rome: Total War... It might not be all shiny and pretty like Medieval 2: Total War but it's just as good...

Off Topic: I still wish they would port Spartan: Total Warrior to PC...
True, it was a great game, but one of the things I like about the series is they really do add more detail and features to the gameplay itself with each game.

That said, the different time period and the units available made for some kick ass battles.

I could agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

if he liked Fallout 3, Oblivion might be up his alley. I also support the Borderlands suggestion. Dragon Age Origins or Torchlight, if he's into RPGs.

Singleplayer wise Crysis Warhead is about 6-12 hours, depending on your rate of play/number of deaths etc.

R6V2 is actually a pretty fun game. Most games have a singleplayer mode and a multiplayer mode, the singleplayer consisting of a campaign, but R6V2 has that and more. There is a mode called 'Terrorist Hunt', and what you do is basically set your rules (difficulty mode and number of terrorists) pick if you'd like to bring two AI Teammates with you, or play as a 'Lone Wolf'.

You may also play the campaign and terrorist hunt online, along with the other modes of multiplayer gameplay, similar to most shooting games. There is a ranking up system, which includes your army rank, Pvt., Colonel, Lieutenant, etc., and your weapon ranks, which include assault, marksmanship, and CQB (close quarters combat). The way that you get points for each category is determined by how you kill your enemy, whether if it is by a headshot, which adds one point to your marksmanship, or through cover, which yields assault points.

Though I've never beat the campaign I can confidently tell you that you can play this game for hours on end, ranking up, playing with friends, and all of that good stuff. I'd be willing to broadcast for you if you want to see more.

I managed to get him into one of the older games so I know how it plays, Online wise my dad doesn't normally go for the multiplayer as I said above, its only for the singleplayer.

Well then its perfect, because he doesn't need to play multiplayer to play terrorist hunt which is vital for gaining experience.

I'll have a look, if I find it I'll make sure to grab it, possibly Borderlands and Company of Heroes to.
The good thing is, if he doesn't get on with them, I have them to play

Battalion Wars 2 you mean? It's not that similiar. Advance Wars is turn-based whereas Battalion Wars is real-time, but they're both strategy games of course.
I think you have the typical RTS controls with Battalion Wars but you can choose to take command of a single unit, too.

Go for it.
Both are great games, although I myself don't like BioShock that much, but Oblivion is a really great and long-lasting RPG. If he liked Fallout 3, I'm sure he will like Oblivion, too, unless he's not into the medival setting.
But as I understand he just finished the main quest in Fallout 3 and then never ever played it again?

That was correct, but the fact is Bioshock was only £5 cheaper by itself. At least this way, He has two awesome games he can enjoy when hes at his desk long enough.
That and I can take one while I wait for this patch for NFS Shift that allows ATI cards to actually play the game.
